Learn the Basics of Dimensional Carving 

If you’ve wanted to learn how I create the carved, dimensional details you see in my signs, this is where I recommend starting.

Carving a Leaf is a beginner-friendly course designed to help you get comfortable with the tools, techniques, and process I use to turn flat MDF into dimensional, hand-carved pieces. We’re starting with a simple leaf so you can focus on learning how to create shape, depth, and movement before moving into more detailed designs like florals.

I’ll walk you through the process from start to finish, including:

• Preparing and cutting the included leaf file with a laser or scroll saw
• Layering different MDF thicknesses to create added depth
• The carving tools, rotary bits, sanders, and materials I use
• Removing material and creating your initial shape
• Adding carved details and experimenting with different leaf styles
• Smoothing and finishing your carving in preparation for primer and paint
• Tips and techniques I’ve learned through years of creating dimensional signs

Your course also includes the downloadable leaf file and accompanying eBook, so you can follow along at your own pace and reference the steps as you work.

No laser? That’s completely fine. I demonstrate both the laser and scroll saw process so you can use the tools you have available.

This course focuses specifically on cutting, shaping, carving, and smoothing. Painting is not included and will be covered separately.
